Overview
Djibouti is the gateway to the Horn of Africa, serving the landlocked countries of Ethiopia and Somalia. Djibouti is also the crossroads between three continents, halfway between Europe and the Far East.

Team
The Djibouti Logistics office has 29 staff comprising of Logistics officers, Logistics assistants and storekeepers.

Activities
Port Operations
Port activities are the most important industry in Djibouti. The port is at the crossroad of major commercial routes, connecting the mainland of Europe and the Mediterranean regions to the Red Sea, East Africa, Asia and the Far East.  This provides an excellent base for both liner transhipment and regional feeder services.
The port provides a complete range of services required by international shipping companies with a container terminal, a free trade zone, and roll-on roll-off (RORO) and bulk cargo equipment.
Recent inprovements made include the expansion and surfacing of the container terminal, building of new facilities including sheds, extension of quays and berths and the rehabilitation of the road and railway network of the port.

Storage
Warehouses do exist, but most are poorly maintained. Most of the warehouses are damaged, and lack normal warehouse facilities such as electricity, and cleanliness. Most roads to the warehouses are very uneven, which makes accessibility very difficult. The few warehouses that are on the main road do not have enough space for manoeuvring trucks.

There are some warehouses in the port. There is also a big warehouse in the Djibouti Dry Port.  There are some in the industrial zones, but most are not in very good condition. There are a few in the districts price range is about USD 900 and for a space of about 500m2 (USD 1.8 per square meter). There are warehouses available in some districts, notably Ali-sabieh, Tadjoura and Dikhil.  These warehouses have the capacity each of 400 tons. There is also the ONARS warehouse in Djibouti with a capacity of 700 tons, which is at the disposal of WFP.

Road Transport
There are not many local notable transport companies with a marked quantity of trucks. However, Djibouti transport 2000 is a transport company with a fleet of around 50 trucks with 30-40 tons load capacity and ten others for transport in trail condition roads with the capacity of 10 tons. The other transport companies are of transport syndicates.

Rail
The Ethiopian Djibouti railroad route length is 781 km and is based on standard gauge system. This route is the only rail link available in both Djibouti and Ethiopia. The rail route existing in Djibouti is only about 100 km. The average monthly tonnage is about 200,000 tons including a good number of passengers as well. The main transit points are Douda, Goubetto, Hol-Hol, Daasbiyo, Ali-Sabieh and Guelile.

There is lack of good communication system. The rail system is very old and needs renovation. There is also shortages of spares of repairs. The rail is almost one way, as there is a long waiting time when two trains are coming from the opposite direction. This also needs to be taken care of.

Aviation
There are no current air operations in this country.
