WFP Logistics – we deliver

Ethiopia

WFP Aviation launched its operation in Ethiopia in April 2008, to meet the passenger requirements of the humanitarian community in Ethiopia’s Somali Region and to support the monitoring activities of WFP and other humanitarian programmes. Currently, one 12-seat Cessna Caravan is fully chartered from a local air operator with access to a second similar aircraft chartered on ad hoc basis for extra capacity.

This operation contributes to the enhancement of humanitarian assistance in Ethiopia through providing air support for both passengers and cargo between Addis Ababa and various zones in the Somali Region (Degehabur, Fik, Gode, Korahe and Warder). These areas have poor road and airport/airstrip infrastructure with no commercial air transport alternatives. In addition, distribution points are far apart and accessibility is hampered by insecurity.
