Activities
Port Operations

The main port for entry of international shipments is the WalvisBay port.  The port of Walvisbay is located on the Southwest coast of Africa. It offers direct access to main international and regional shipping routes. Contrary to other southern African ports, which are currently congested, Walvisbay operates at one third (1/3) of its capacity, handling about 2 million tons of cargo and some 800 vessels annually. The harbor has been deepened to 12.8 meters and can accomodate liner vessels with a capacity of 2200 to 2400 TEU's. The port has 8 berths, which from shore-side are numbered in reverse order.

Road Transport

Namibia has good road infrastructure and adequate bridges. Corridors in Namibia were designed to be the transport core infrastructure for regional and international trade. The land border crossing between South Africa and Namibia at Noordoewer is a main point of entry. The country’s commercial transporter network is reliable, albeit the number of transporters capable and willing to engage in transporting relief assistance is relatively small.

Rail

Namibia has a good functioning and organized railway system.  The railway runs from Walvisbay port up to Tsumeb and Grootfontein in the north of Namibia.  It furthers goes up to Gobabis in the east and on to Nakop/Ariamsvlei, the southeastern border with the R.S.A
