Team
The WFP Logistics team consists of 15 staff in the main office that includes logistics officers and assistants, storekeepers and tally clerks.
Activities
Port Operations
WFP uses the two main ports in Côte d'Ivoire; Abidjan and San-Pedro. Commodities are delivered to extended delivery points (EDPs) through two logistics corridors; south, through the port of Abidjan from the south and from Burkina Faso through the Ouangolo border crossing from the north.
WFP Côte d'Ivoire has a contract with a freight forwarder SIMAT to deal with the receipt, transit and delivery of food commodities to the main warehouses.
Storage
All of them have warehouses which are managed by WFP staff. The total storage capacity for all these warehouses is about 8,200 Mt of which the main warehouse Abidjan has 3,000 Mt.
Land Transport
WFP does not have it own fleet and uses commercial trucks for the transport of the food. The primary/secondary transport is done by commercial transporters (about 89%). Secondary and tertiary transports are done by cooperating partners (10%) and about 1% by WFP vehicles. The major part of all WFP food commodities are transported to EDPs and distribution sites by shortlisted and contracted transporters.
Rail
WFP does not use rail services in Côte d'Ivoire.
Aviation
There are no aviation services in Côte d'Ivoire.
Other WFP Logistics Services
Extended delivery points (EDPs) are managed by WFP staff. A commodity tracking system is installed in all EDPs to monitor and report on all food transactions.
