The World Food Programme has been working over four decades in Bolivia. During this time the WFP had to deal with diverse natural disasters, giving an enormous challenge to the logistic department, from Bolivia's diverse topography and deprived road infrastructure to the critical political-social environment.

In the last three years Bolivia suffered a sequence of climatic events; particularly the main factor was the heavy rainfall that caused floods, mudslides, landslides and droughts. The most profound impacts are loss of lives, damage to housing, infrastructure and agriculture plantation. In addition, the 65 percent of its total population of 9.5 million lives below the poverty line, rising to 80 percent in rural areas. The Basic Income of 38 percent of the total population is insufficient to meet indispensable food needs.

On the other hand, the precarious road infrastructure which connects the cities to the different municipalities is inadequate; WFP Bolivia as well coordinated with UN agencies, government and different cooperating partners such as OXFAM, CARE, Plan International, Save the Children, Adventist Development Relief Agency (ADRA) and World Vision have developed many logistics solutions to cope this problem. Incidentally, the support to the affected Bolivian families has been made by all the ways of distribution that we know, in other words WFP delivers by air, land and water in order to reach and provide assistance to the affected people.
