Shipping
The bulk of WFP cargo touches water on its journey to its final destination, making shipping an important component of the Logistics operation. A dependable and reliable provider of punctual and cost efficient services, with a significant fleet of charter vessels and liner consignments on the high seas at any one time, we manage a floating stock of food aid, averaging 200,000 metric tons. When an emergency occurs, it is this stock that can be diverted immediately to the country in need.
WFP provides Ocean Transportation Services on a highly professional basis and is ready at all times to respond to emergency situations as they occur. We arrange for all ocean transport planning, cargo call-forwards and consolidation of commodities including the contracting of discharging and bagging services as required. Food cargoes vary from tinned food, cooking oil in cans and bagged fortified products such as corn soya blend, to full shiploads of grain products, transported on chartered vessels.

We also provide specialised vessels such as landing crafts, supply vessels and passenger ships and deploy experienced shipping experts as circumstances demand.
