In 2008 alone, WFP moved 1.13 million metric tons of cargo via containerised Liner Services. Though the actual quantity was only 40% of the total tonnage moved by our Shipping Unit (the other 60% moving on chartered vessels) the nature of containerised cargoes means that in terms of the shipments themselves, liners made up more than 90% of the total number.
At WFP we move a wide variety of commodities in containers including, but not limited to, wheat flour, corn soya blend, sugar, vegetable oil, maize meal, high energy biscuits and pulses. We also move a variety of non-food items such as Wiikhaals, generators and vehicles when requested.
